As this contract primarily relates to Part B services, Network Rail is issuing this notice on a voluntary basis only and will not be following one of the procurement processes set out in the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2006. Since 2005 Network Rail has recruited over 2000 apprentices on to its Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme, specifically as a skills pipeline for infrastructure maintenance teams. As our business devolves, technology moves on apace, and levels of investment increase, the demand for new and different skills are emerging. The Network Rail Apprentice Programme now needs to evolve so that it is agile enough to make a viable ‘offering’ to a wide range of audiences, including internal project management and operational client groups, the rail industry supply chain, and the international rail transport market. It also needs to expand to include qualifications at levels 3, 4 and 5 and offer a clearly defined route to higher education and professional development.
To meet these demands, we are now seeking expressions of interest in the design and delivery of elements of a pan-industry Apprenticeship programme, to operate from a centrally-located residential training centre from 2016, providing programme management, technical, vocational and behavioural training and qualifications, which will become recognized as the benchmark choice for rail engineering apprenticeships in the UK and abroad.
