The City of London is looking to appoint a landscape /urban design practice to respond to the design of a new space enveloping the current Aldgate Gyratory which will be removed and replaced with two way traffic on Aldgate High Street and St Botolph Street.
The proposed highway changes produce two new public spaces within the area.
These include a public square located on the western edge of the current gyratory, between the Sir John Cass Primary School and St Botolph without Aldgate Church, and a smaller, though no less significant, public space on the eastern side of the gyratory. The kerb lines and crossing points of the connecting streets will be designed by the City’s in-house engineers. However, the chosen consultant will be required to develop designs for the enhancement of these connecting streets to ensure that the area is treated as one space.
