Loughborough University is increasing provision for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses. To facilitate an increase in student numbers, additional teaching space is required to complement its existing estate. To achieve this, a new building dedicated to teaching provision is to be constructed on vacant land in the West Park zone of the campus. The building is scheduled to open in October 2016 and will form part of the ongoing development of this area.

The proposed building is divided into academic areas comprising: engineering workshops and design studios to the ground floor; CAD rooms and labs (Electrical, materials and physics) on the first floor; labs (chemistry and bio projects) with a large flexible learning space and external covered terrace to the second floor. With the main entrance at ground floor level are the functional elements of the building: a reception; office spaces and toilets. Breakout spaces for both students and teachers are located near the entrance with relevant vending facilities. Breakout spaces are also provided on the upper floors. The approximate net internal area is 3 700 m2.
