The client requires independence within his professional team therefore one supplier cannot be awarded all consultancies. See further definition under Lots in Annex B below.

A design team consisting of an Architect, Structural Engineer, Civils Engineer, Mechanical and Electrical Services Engineer. A design Leader will be required and this role will be best suited to the Structural Engineer.

The design is to provide a building to house 20 laboratories plus associated accommodation. The laboratories should be divided into two sections which can be adjacent to each other. Requirements for the office and ancillary accommodation are set out below.
Section 1 Comprising 12 laboratories for high precision metrology currently based around quantum frequency standards, quantum communications and related technologies with a total internal floor area of approximately 500 sq m.
Section 2 Comprising 8 laboratories for development work on the application of quantum technologies facilitating interaction between NPL and industry, universities and other collaborators with a total floor area of approximately 300 sq m.
AML Office and ancillary space.
The design should provide options for office accommodation and ancillary space in the design of the AML. Provision should be made in the design of the AML for informal meeting space and a preparation/workshop room of not less than 50 sq m and 4 store rooms not less than 25 sq m each.
Please note that BIM capability is essential for this project.
