The provision of suitable educational facilities for a new grammar school providing 14 500 m² of permanent teaching accommodation, grass pitches, five synthetic tennis courts and a 3G pitch together with a new 16 Class base primary school totalling 3 357 m² in area with a separate 374 m² nursery unit providing 52 full time places.
The site for the proposed separate new-build replacement has been identified as the former Clooney Army Base and part of the adjoining Nelson Drive Site.
The site for the works is a 35 acre (14.1 H) brownfield site, formerly Clooney Barracks accessed off the A2 Limavady Road – a key transport corridor.
The site conditions for the proposed new schools campus are such that a substantial amount of works to prepare the ground for the new building structures are needed. Areas of the site will require excavation to provide a reduced level for construction while other areas will require fill. Works may also require in-situ/ex-situ remediation of soils and/or ground water and offsite removal of material where re-use is not deemed appropriate to a suitably licensed landfill under Duty of Care Waste Licensing to include waste classification and appropriate WAC (waste acceptance criteria) testing.
