In order to be considered for the Catering List, Leicester City Council expects establishments where food and/or drink is prepared to have a rating of either 4 or 5 in the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme [a national information scheme run by the Food Standards Agency and most Local Authorities]. The scheme provides information on the extent to which food business establishments meet the requirements of food hygiene law at inspection. The Council is keen to work with businesses whose hygiene standards are good (4) or very good (5)

Suppliers who have been assessed under other food hygiene rating schemes or have not been rated at all because they are new or because they are in a local authority which has no scheme, may make representations to provide the Council with food and/or beverages. Such suppliers will be asked to provide certain documents about their compliance with food hygiene law.

Given the sensitivity and risk associated with certain orders any person or company who makes representations to provide the Council with food and/or beverages, agrees to all information about his or her compliance with food law being requested by and supplied to the Council for the purpose of considering such representations.

Further information on the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is available at http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/webpage/faqsen#elem001
