Chipping Norton gets own yacht club

Meeting place for Cotswolds sailing community to open in landlocked home town of David Cameron and Rebekah Brooks

It is at the heart of a well-heeled and well-connected set that includes Prime Minister David Cameron and the former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks. Now Chipping Norton also has its own yacht club.

The fact that the small town is more than 100 miles from the sea and perched on the highest point in the Oxfordshire section of the Cotswolds is neither here nor there.

The Chipping Norton Yacht Club will officially launch early this year in one of the most landlocked areas of Britain, its website reveals.

The holding page says it will “provide an opportunity for the Cotswolds’ sailing community to get together, share experiences, hear interesting speakers, find crew, swap gear, enjoy social meetings, share a meal and exchange general ‘scuttlebutt’ at the bar”.

Helpfully, it adds: “You don’t need to be a boat owner to qualify for membership.” © 2013 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies. All rights reserved. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
