The building will reflect the thematic area of ‘Aerospace Research’ and the cutting edge technology and research carried out within the building. The building will house a series of research groups comprising of members of the University and Strategic Partners working on a variety of different projects.
It is anticipated that 100-200 people will be based in the building; with a further (60-80) requiring facilities on a visiting basis, so flexibility and the ability to reconfigure both research and office space is essential.
The University’s commitment to sustainability in general and to a better performance on environmental issues is a fundamental part of our strategic vision. This applies to one of our key aims which is to reduce our carbon footprint by 50 % by 2020. This means that all major new build projects must be to the highest possible energy standards to achieve BREEAM Excellent and have a minimal carbon impact. We are looking for the latest technology and innovative solutions to minimising heat gains, lighting and natural ventilation.
