Description of the contract
The GMC is also responsible for ensuring that International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who wish to obtain registration with a licence to practise medicine in the UK have the necessary skills and knowledge. To determine whether IMGs have the skills and knowledge the GMC run Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) examinations. The PLAB Test is in two parts; Part 1 is a written single best answer examination and Part 2 is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) consisting of 14 stations plus one or more pilot stations.
This project relates to the Part 2 examination, the OSCE. The GMC schedules PLAB Part 2 tests days in advance and runs three circuits on each day with 16 candidates attending each circuit. The current system uses pre-printed marking sheets, one sheet per candidate per station, that the examiner completes by shading in the appropriate lozenges.
The GMC would like to replace the paper marking sheets used in the current process with an electronic marking system that enables the examiners to electronically enter the scores for each candidate as they pass through the stations. The system should then use the scores entered to calculate the results for each candidate and produce statistics to help improve the PLAB 2 OSCE examination and its management.
