Description of the contract

Tender for the proposed demolition of 2No high rise blocks and 1No low rise residential blocks located on the Gascoigne Estate, Barking, IG11. (Works planned for late 2012/13). London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is now inviting expressions of interest for NFDC accredited demolition contractors to be shortlisted to 6 contractors that will take part in the demolition / site clearance tender for: Phase 1 works Grange House (12 storey high rise block of LPS system build construction) with demolition expected to start at the end of 2012. 17 to 22 and 23 to 28 St Margaret’s (3 storey low rise blocks) with demolition expected to start early 2013. Phase 2 works Cobham House (12 storey high rise block of LPS system build construction) with demolition expected to start July / August 2013. The works are currently scheduled to take place in two separate phases, but we are awaiting final clarifications from our own client as to when all three buildings will be fully vacated and available for demolition. However, we will try to stay as close to the timescales list above as possible. Access to Grange House, St Margaret’s and Cobham House will be via the A123 Ripple Road, King Edwards Road and St Margaret’s and all three buildings are limited by busy residential roads and the Ripple Primary School (Westbury Annex) is located close by. These works have an estimated value of approximately £900K The works consists of:- •Arranging stats disconnections and terminations from the roadway prior to demolition •Ensuring any outstanding asbestos removals are completed prior to demolition •The demolition and site clearance for circa 150 dwellings located in 2No high rise buildings and 1 single low rise building including foundations. •Levelling the site upon completion of the works Tenders are anticipated to be issued during the summer of 2012 with the first phase works to planned to start at the end of the year. Due to the location of the three buildings in question, it is imperative that all works / vehicle movements are undertaken to the highest standards possible and the upmost consideration to local residents.

How to apply

Companies wishing to be considered for this project must be fully NFDC approved and in their expression of interest must show a scanned copy of their valid NFDC certificate. All submissions for expressions of interest to tender must be supported with: •3 case studies of high rise / residential demolition works (on 2 – 4 A4 double sided sheets). •a list of client references including local authorities (1 A4 sheet) •a scanned valid NFDC certificate. •Any value added ideas in regard to carrying out the works on site. Can we request you focus on methods of working that will cause the minimum disruption to local residents and the nearby school during busy times. In addition, your own thoughts on best value practices and the most cost effective method of demolition will be most welcome. If you can cross reference against previous project carried out by your company here this will most useful (1 – 3 A4 double sided sheets). It should be noted that the council will be looking for a maximum of 5-6 contractors to take part in the tender and the final selection will be based on the quality of the information you supply in your expression of interest.
