Devon County Council has 1 of the highest recycling rates of the shire counties in England. Whilst it continues to drive recycling rates up, Devon County Council also recognises the greater need to reduce household waste now and in the future. Educating children and the wider community is an essential part of the County Council’s long term strategy to achieving a more sustainable future, with an increasing emphasis on waste minimisation, resource management and a greater awareness of the issues surrounding consumerism.

Devon County Council has an established and well developed waste education programme providing assemblies, workshops, site visits and events for both Primary and Secondary schools.
The Contract will be for an initial service period of 3 years and subject to mutual agreement with the service provider, it can be extended for a maximum of 2 further years.
An Open process will be followed to procure this Contract.
This service is not divided into Lots as the personnel involved in providing the Service will have to deliver a consistent programme of waste education at all schools within the administrative boundaries of Devon County Council and Torbay Council which would not be feasible with the number of personnel envisaged to be required within the budgetary restrictions for this project.
