First phase of Dorset’s Public Services Network completed on time, says council resources chief
Dorset county council has completed the initial phase of its Public Services Network (PSN), according to wide area network (WAN) supplier Kcom.
The council signed its £30m PSN deal with KCom in July 2011. In addition to Dorset, the local organisations that are participating in the project are North Dorset, East Dorset, Weymouth and Portland, Christchurch, West Dorset and Purbeck councils.
Other councils as well as the NHS, police and fire authorities have been invited to join.
“We’re delighted that together Kcom and the county council have been able to complete the roll out of the WAN within our deadline,” said Elaine Taylor, director for corporate resources and chair of the Dorest PSN partnership board.
“The completion is a tremendous step in creating easier pathways for shared public services for Dorset residents by enabling more co-ordinated working between government departments and agencies in the county.”
The WAN now connects 400 sites across the county, including council offices, libraries and schools.
