Description of the contract

We require a supplier to contribute to the evaluation of The Space, and to help us determine how far it has met its original objectives. These include: • To build digital capacity in the arts • To support digital creativity and experimentation • To connect arts organisations with a wider audience and with each other We want the evaluation to help us decide how The Space could be improved or developed in future, by considering what worked well and what did not work well. We also want to provide an evaluation that contains useful learning for arts organisations about audiences for digital content for the arts and cultural sector and how to produce high quality, innovative digital work. Our Space evaluation programme covers three areas of focus to support the objectives above and the subject of this tender is: • Evaluating the impact on participating organisations through self-evaluation and independent evaluation With this piece of research, we want to evaluate the impact that The Space project has had on the participating organisations. We want to find out how it has changed their approach to creating new work for digital platforms, managing the production of digital work, their approach to reaching audiences, and whether it has led to significant organisational change. We have commissioned 51 individual projects in The Space from 50 arts organisations across all art forms. The projects are widely dispersed across England. Each successful applicant agreed to participate in evaluating the Space, which we have described as an ‘action research project’. Each was sent a self-evaluation template which they completed as a condition for the release of the first instalment of their grants, and they will also be required to complete a more detailed report/template at the end of the project. We would like researchers to read both completed report forms for all of the participating organisations and then conduct face to face or phone interviews with them. Please note that each project has a different timeline and set of outputs. Many have already delivered their content to the Space, some are still producing and delivering material, and some will deliver material and their final reports at the end of the pilot phase at the end of October.
