2.2

Description of the goods or services required

1000 Lives Improvement Service is the national improvement service supporting NHS Wales and its 90,000 staff to improve patient care. Part of Public Health Wales, 1000 Lives Improvement Service is integrated into the work of every health board and trust in Wales, supporting local and national improvement programmes across primary, community and acute care.

1000 Lives Improvement works with NHS Wales and its partner organisations to achieve sustainable and measurable improvements. This is underpinned by the philosophy of prudent healthcare and the institute of healthcare improvement’s triple aim of improving population health, enhancing the experience of care and reducing the cost of healthcare.

During the 2014/15 financial year, 1000 lives Improvement Service organised 136 events generating 8245 registrations. 1000 Lives Improvement were also involved in 2 events that required abstract submission during the financial year that generated 290 submissions.

The event management work is carried out by the Programme Support Team within 1000 lives, who are responsible for delivering events on behalf of programme managers. There is a requirement to produce events reporting information for the 1000 Lives Improvement Leadership Team.

The demand on the department for these services will continue to grow over time, while the increasing likelihood of financial constraints within NHS Wales means that we must continue to find an efficient method of delivering a quality event management service without incurring additional team resource costs
