Part A: the Project.
Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales (“NMW”) has been awarded a Heritage grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (“HLF”)for the refurbishment and development of St Fagans: National History Museum (the “Museum”) (the “Project”).
NMW confirms that the Project will include, but is not necessarily limited to the following:
— the construction of a new building incorporating a gallery on the site of the Museum, such gallery to be designed and constructed to the BREEAM Excellent standard,
— the re-modelling, refurbishment and extension to the Museum’s existing entrance building including the exhibition galleries,
— the fit-out of both the new building gallery and the refurbished existing entrance building and galleriesto the interpretive brief and content provided by the Museum.
The total budget for the Project is circa £21.5 million (net of fees and Client Side costs).
The value of the Interpretive fit out elements of the Project is in the range of £2.5 to £3.0 Million.
NMW intends to appoint one or more contractors to undertake the construction elements of the Project described above in due course. However, please note that such appointment(s) will be the subject of one or more separate notices and are not covered by this contract notice. The information set out above is provided for background information only.
Part B: the Design Services.
This contract notice concerns the proposed appointment by NMW of one service provider to provide design services in respect of the Project, and particularly for the provision of the following services:
— Exhibition design services for the interpretive fit out of the new building gallery structure and the refurbishment of the existing entrance building and galleries to the interpretive brief and content provided by the Museum.
NMW is inviting organisations to issue a request to participate in the tender process for the above.
The Architectural designs for both the refurbishment of the existing entrance building and galleries and the new building and gallery and the associated drainage / external works have been developed to RIBA Stage D. The Interpretive designs for the existing entrance building and galleries and the new building have been developed to RIBA Stage C equivalent.
The Base Build Stage E design will commence in September 2012.
The successful organisation appointed to provide Exhibition Design services will be required to work with the Client and appointed Base Build Design Team from RIBA equivalent design stage D through to RIBA Stage L (post practical completion).
The current development programme envisages the Base Build works commencing on site in September 2013 with completion of the Gallery for interpretive fit out in the new building being achieved by November 2014 and by April 2015 for the galleries in the existing building. Following interpretive fit out and object installation it is envisaged that the galleries in the new building will be available for public opening by May 2015 and the ones in the existing building by April 2016.
The delivery of the Project within the budget referred to above is a critical requirement of the Project and those organisations which are successful in being awarded the contract described above will be required to buy into the successful delivery of the Project, on time and within NMW’s total budget for the Project.
Part C: Funding.
The funding for the Implementation phase of the project has been secured from the Heritage Lottery fund and other sources.

Organisations interested in participating in the tender process for the services described above are required to complete and submit a pre-quification questionnaire (“PQQ”) by the date set out in Section VI.3.4 below. Whilst the total budget for the Project (including construction works and other works) which are not the subject of this contract notice is cira £21.5 million (net of fees and Client side costs), it is estimated that the total potential valve of the services covered by this contract notice could be between £350,00 and £450,00 over the term of the contract that the NMW anticipates awarding hereunder.
