Title

Gaelic Immersion Course for Teachers

2.2

Description of the goods or services required

An immersion course aimed at teachers wishing to gain sufficient fluency in Gaelic to allow them to transfer to teaching in GME. The proposed course will be part of a wider structure incorporating any Gaelic Language courses already available to teachers (including GLPS training, Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Gaelic Immersion weeks for teachers and the Streap Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme.) The teachers will be attending the course full-time, and will be under the same pay and conditions of employment as they would be if teaching.

The course should:

– Be structured to run during the school term

– Follow full-time school hours

– Provide teachers with appropriate language skills for a GME environment

– Provide teachers with school and subject specific vocabulary

– Be suitable for primary school and secondary school -teachers

– Include a pedagogy module with specific reference to bilingual education

– Include modules on language immersion methodology with specific reference to GME

– Offer distance-learning options

– Allow teachers the opportunity to develop resources for use in a GME classroom

– Allow teachers the opportunity to observe Gaelic Medium Classes specific to the level / subject that they teach

– Allow teachers the opportunity to undertake teaching placements in a GME Environment

– Include Gaelic grammar lessons

– Allow teachers the opportunity to spend some time in a Gaelic Speaking Community.

– Be GTCS approved

– Include SCQF credits

– Include places for up to 10 teachers

Total quantity or scope of tender

It is anticipated that the successful tender will be priced at, or under, £125,000 (one hundred and twenty-five thousand pounds) in total (including VAT).

3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

Parties submitting a bid must have:

– knowledge of delivering Gaelic Immersion Courses

– knowledge of the Scottish Educational system

– Knowledge and experience of working within GME

The tender should include:

– details of a proposed course structure

– details of the proposed length of course

– details of the bidder’s ability and suitability to deal with and deliver the course

– course aims and objectives

– information should be provided about possible tutors, including details as to how qualified they are to deliver such a course (CVs will be accepted if the bidder wishes to submit them)

– a draft timetable

– detailed information regarding course development costs

– detailed information regarding course costs including: teaching costs, tutor costs and any other relevant costs

– details of any intended partnership working

– details of intended funding bids
