Treatment and disposal of primarily but not limited to, local authority collected municipal residual waste from:
(a) the Council’s waste collection service
(b) the Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres and,
(c) the Council’s street cleansing service.
The contract may also cover other council generated waste.
The Council is looking for a company to manage the treatment and disposal of the above waste streams in a compliant, economic and sustainable manner.
Treatment and disposal is required to achieve a high diversion of waste from landfill in accordance with the Waste Hierarchy set out in the Waste Framework Directive.

The envisaged start date will be 1.4.2014 when the Council expects it will require c 65 000 tonnes of waste to be treated. The projection is that this will decrease annually over the course of the contract.The contract length is envisaged to be for a period of 8 years with an option to extend by a further 2 years.
