The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (‘AWPR) / Balmedie –Tipperty (‘B-T’) Project consists of a package of 2 discrete Trunk Road Schemes, each of which has been developed separately through the statutory process.
The AWPR is proposed as both a bypass and a distributor road around the City of Aberdeen. The route envisages the construction of a wholly new dual 2 lane road some 34,6 km long around Aberdeen City, together with a fast link to Stonehaven some 11,35 km long, associated side roads and junctions. The AWPR is divided into 3 sections; the Northern Leg, Southern Leg and Fastlink.
The A90 Balmedie to Tipperty Scheme comprises a 9 km section of new dual carriageway, with 2 lanes in each direction, 3 grade separated junctions to allow access on and off the new road at the following locations: to the south of Balmedie; at Rashierieve (Newburgh), and south of Tipperty. The scheme also includes for the upgrading of 3 km of existing dual carriageway immediately to the south of Balmedie
Hydrogeological and Hydrological Monitoring is required to record background hydrological and hydrogeological conditions associated with 31 (thirty-one) Private Water Supplies (‘PWS’) and 3 (three) Sensitive Environmental Sites (‘SES’) ecological receptors prior to commencement of construction of the AWPR. This pre-construction monitoring phase is proposed to last for 1 (one) year and comprises of continuous level / flow water recording at selected locations and, in-situ and laboratory water quality testing.
