Argyll and Bute Council is currently seeking an Independent Chair for its Approval and Matching Panel. The Panel is a quasi-judicial body which considers and makes recommendations to the Agency Decision Maker regarding applications to become a foster carer or an adopter as well as considering a child’s plan for permanence and matching a child to a placement.

The Chair’s role is crucial in ensuring that the Panel’s work is carried out effectively and sensitively.

We are looking for someone who has:

– A professional social work qualification and is registered with the SSSC.

– 5 years or more post-qualification experience and a good knowledge of the standards, regulations and issues relating to fostering and adoption.

– A personal commitment to continuous learning and development.

– The authority and competence to chair a Panel.

– The ability to analyse and explain complex information.

– The ability to identify key issues, problems and solutions.

– Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

It is a requirement that the person chosen has not been employed the Council in any capacity during the proceeding twelve months and also that they are willing to undergo an enhanced Disclosure/PVG check.

Total quantity or scope of tender

The successful candidate will be engaged on a three-year contract which will include a six-month probationary period.

A fee of £300 will be paid for the preparation for each Panel and a fee of £300 will be paid for each Panel chaired. Travel and subsistence will be paid at the local authority rate.

The Panel usually meets on the first Monday of day of every month. There are normally several hours of preparation for each meeting involving the reading and scrutinising of papers and the planning of the meeting.
