Leeds City Council has agreed to pilot SmartKlub, which is a new operating model for project co-production at city scale. SmartKlub is a new approach to developing distributed energy infrastructure at city scale. It works to conceptualise and develop the overarching strategy and projects to enable cities to have affordable energy, become zero carbon and move towards more sustainable, resilient communities. You can find out more about SmartKlub at SmartKlub.org.
SmartKlub Leeds commenced its work in April 2015 with a kick off and introduction workshop on 22nd April. it builds on the work of the Leeds Energy Forum which included a number of widely attended group workshops and smaller focus groups. In simple terms SmartKlub Leeds has been established to work to turn the collective intelligence from the Leeds Energy Forum and the work of SmartKlub Leeds into a project pipeline of energy projects for the City.
SmartKlub will work together to shape the short, medium & long term opportunities for the city which:
- Save Carbon,
- Beat Fuel Poverty &
- Have a sound business case.
And if they do LCC & its partners will take these forward under the charter of SmartKlub.
The objectives of this workshop are to use the framework, initiated at the SmartKlub Leeds introduction & kick-off and co-produce an initial project plan focussed upon distributed energy at city scale for the 120 Tower-blocks within Housing Leeds’ ownership & management and also consider the £85M per annum capital spend of Housing Leeds.
