BMBC is looking for a suitably experienced organisation to act as agent to deliver these events on behalf of the Council. The contract holder will be the event manager  only, the branding of the event should be I Know I Can and be clear that it is on behalf of BMBC.

To organise and facilitate 2 interactive sessions with details as below.

In your proposal we are looking to see how you propose to deliver innovative,  inspirational and aspirational sessions that will engage learners and their parents and are cost effective,  well managed and high quality.

Proposals should outline what you can provide, how you anticipate that you will organise and manage the planning of the events and how you will communicate with the range of partners described. Recruitment plans should detail how you will promote the events and ensure attendance by those learners who would benefit the most from such an opportunity (targeting for daytime sessions is detailed below). Preparations for the session including consulting and contact with the Local Authority, schools and providers/employers to agree the date and approach will need to begin in the summer term.

Although we are inviting you to suggest the venue, we anticipate that the session will involve displays and demonstrations/workshops of options available to young people. A venue that has been successfully used in the past to accommodate a session of this size is The Metrodome Sports Hall. The guide price we have included is therefore based on prices from there.

Ambition Barnsley Detail

To organise and facilitate an interactive careers session to support participation and positive progression through showcasing the learning pathways available to young people in Barnsley for Y9, Y10 and Y11  young people and their parents. The day time sessions should be targeted for Y9, 10 and 11 pupils with priority given to those who are priority 1 or 2 on the Child Profiling Tool (schools will hold their own data showing this). The evening session will be open to all parents of Y9,10 and 11.

The session will be held in October on a date agreed with schools and providers. The theme should be promoting Barnsley’s I Know I Can initiative and how this session fits into other I Know I Can initiatives and I KNOW I CAN Week (if this goes ahead, further details to be provided in the Summer).

The successful organisation will need to work closely to make arrangements with Schools, Colleges, Work Based Learning Providers, the  Local Authority, Employers and other partner organisations as necessary. All pre and post 16 providers should be given the opportunity to be involved to market their organisation and the pathways that they can offer. If providers wish to attend they must sign up to attending the full day, ie no early leaving.

The focus will be the Pathways available to young people. The session should focus on the following pathway options :

o    Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Work Based Learning (Colleges and other providers)

o    A Levels (Colleges and 6th form)

o    Vocational Options including Foundation Learning (Colleges, Greenacre Special School, and other providers)

o    Enterprise/Self Employment (Community Based Learning, Employers, Barnsley College, Enterprising Young People Project, Big Challenge)

These will be promoted via

o    Inspirational briefing and welcome area – all to attend

o    Interactive Workshops – based on the pathways above, these will be pre selected before the day and each learner will attend 2 on the day

o    Market Place – stalls representing providers in the area, HE options, and employers who offer training, covering each of the pathways above – this will be attended by all young people as session 3 alongside their 2 workshop choices

o    Support Hub (Members of the successful organisation’s team, Qualified IAG staff supplied or bought in by the successful organisation, Market stalls such as Transport,  AWP, I KNOW I CAN Stall) – this will be attached to and attended as part of the Market Place

The contractor will liaise with our 2 special schools to ensure that their requirements can also be accommodated which may involve them attending at a quiet time of the event and a less prescriptive format.

I KNOW I CAN and Raising Participation messages will need to be promoted in the introductory session along with why the young people are there and what other opportunities can be linked in.

Young people should be invited to attend via their schools through the day and targeting those who are at risk of becoming NEET and/or are uncertain about their future choices (potential max of 50 young people per school may be needed to ensure transport is possible within the budget and to allow facilitation on the day). The parents session should be twilight and into the evening and all learners who could not attend during the day should also be invited.

Industry Day Detail

To build on, and link with, work undertaken under the Employability Challenge and organise and deliver an Industry Day.  The Industry Day will provide an opportunity to young people aged 14-19 and their parents/carers to learn about sectors and businesses in and around Barnsley that offer employment and training opportunities to young people leaving school, 6th form and further and higher education.   The Industry day will take place in February/March 2015 (preferably in National Apprenticeship Week and avoiding 18th February), with an evaluation to be completed by March 2015.

The day time sessions will be targeted for groups within Y9, 10 and 11 pupils, with targeting agreed with the the Local Authority and the schools after the Ambition Barnsley event. The evening session will be open to all parents of Y9, 10 and 11.

The successful organisation will need to work closely to make arrangements with the Local Authority, members of the Work and Skills Board, Secondary Schools, FE and HE, Employers and other partner organisations as necessary.

The aim of the day is to improve understanding and awareness of, and show case,  the range of employment opportunities available in and around Barnsley for young people.

Employers will provide information about the different career and progression paths available within their organisations and the types of skills and qualifications required to enter into them.

These will be promoted via

o    Inspirational briefing and welcome area – all to attend

o    Interactive Workshops – provided by Employers, these will be pre selected before the day and each learner will attend 2 on the day. There should be at least 4 choices of workshop.

o    Market Place – stalls representing local and National Employers – this will be attended by all young people as session 3 alongside their 2 workshop choices

o    Support Hub (Qualified IAG staff supplied by the successful organisation, Members of the successful organisation’s team, Market stalls such as Transport, I KNOW I CAN Stall) – this will be attached to and attended as part of the Market Place

Target number of employers is 20, who will need to be confirmed at least 1 month prior to the event.

The contractor will also identify and engage with no more than 4 providers that may wish to participate.  Providers should only be show-casing existing employment opportunities (apprenticeships /traineeships).
