Description of the contract

The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control have identified that 6046 laboratory be made into a fully compliant CL3 laboratory which will house the Prion unit lab + staff. This project is to refurbish 6046 and transform it into a CL3 environment, operating at Category level 3. The existing laboratory will need to be stripped back to bare walls and rebuilt so as to give an air tight seal to the lab. Those contractors that are selected to tender will be asked to show examples of their works on similar related projects that they have previously undertaken and is to include a site visit by key members of the NIBSC project team. The CL3 Suite is a self-contained Laboratory Suite within the refurbished accommodation. It is designed in layout, and will be required to be engineered as an environment, to ACDP standards. All joints and junctions of furniture and interfaces with walls, floors, etc are to be sealed with proprietary silicon sealant (type appropriate for lab and fumigation environment), in line with Full compliance with Schedule 3 of COSHH 2002 for containment Laboratories. Containment Level 3 standards and as appropriate for the users to undertake experimental work with organisms and pathogens classified as within the ACDP 3 group. Air leakage through (new and existing) walls must be such that no air/smoke/pathogens escape and that fumigation using formaldehyde to these areas is not lost.
