Description
From the 1st April 2015 Lincoln Castle will be re-introduced to the public following a five year regeneration project known as ‘Lincoln Castle Revealed’.
New attractions will include:
• The Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest displayed in a purpose built vault;
• A complete Wall Walk circuit, with lift access;
• Newly accessible areas of the Castle, such as the Victorian male prison and the south curtain wall;
• New café facilities and
• Free access to the grounds
Much of the work to date has focussed on the historic buildings and structures, but there is a requirement to address the management and maintenance of the grounds via a Landscape Management Plan. Short, medium and long term proposals have been outlined, whereby the philosophy is to place the emphasis on the architectural features by simplifying the landscape and removing some of the elements which are either inappropriate for this heritage site or obscuring important views.
Scope of the Work
To support the above aims the work required by this contract involves the clearance of landscape features – such as low level stone retaining walls, concrete paths/foundations, shrubs etc. – and regrading and turfing the cleared areas.
