The Met Office is an Executive Agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), occupying a world-leading position in meteorology, climatology and environmental science with an expanding and increasing global customer base. A key component in this is the Authority’s Managed Archive Storage System (MASS) and associated infrastructure is a critical adjunct to the Authority’s High Performance Computing (HPC) system, without which the latter cannot be used. MASS acts as a repository, or library, for data from the supercomputers, meteorological observational platforms and other sources. The Authority requires the ability to increase the capacity of the MASS environment to meet demands for the archive and restoration of large volumes of data produced by the HPC.

II.2.1)Total quantity or scope:

You are invited to submit a Tender for the supply, installation, commissioning, integration, acceptance and ongoing support and maintenance for the hardware, any required software, plus any training requirements for one or more of the Lots, which in combination with the existing HPSS data management software plus bespoke software developed separately by the Authority (called MOOSE) and a server estate for the MOOSE and HPSS services, will provide the enhanced storage facilities that are required to deliver a solution suitable for large scale archive data storage (MASS-4G) through to the end of the decade.
Included in the scope of this procurement are:
— Supply and installation of the systems comprising of hardware and any necessary firmware and software.
— Supply and installation of the network hardware and software required to interconnect the solution.
— Commissioning and integration of the systems through to acceptance by the Authority.
— Continued system support.
— Provision of relevant staff training.
