The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a sole strategic partner for the provision of a managed service for the Department of Microbiology to include laboratory equipment, maintenance, servicing, consumables and reagents. The managed service may also include other pathology related equipment and services during the term of the contract. Interested suppliers must be capable of providing a complete service solution or be able to work with third party suppliers within a managed service contract arrangement in the most cost effective format.
General microbiology work currently carried out by the department uses automated systems for blood culture, antimicrobial identification / susceptibility (ID/AST) and automated urine analysis. This element includes the use of general and chromagenic culture media, antibiotic discs and MIC tests.
Molecular diagnostics work currently consists of tests for MRSA and norovirus. This includes both one-off single tests and batch testing where appropriate. Proposed systems must be able to provide automated extraction and detection. Further molecular testing targets may be added during the life of the contract.

Precise quantities are unknown but the Awarding Authority’s combined average annual requirement for the microbiological services covered in recent years has been 16 000 blood cultures, 15 000 urine analyses, 10 250 ID cards, 42 400 AST cards, 448 MRSA PCR tests, 760 norovirus PCR tests, 150 000 units of chromagenic culture media and 430 000 units of general culture media (mostly pre-poured). In recent years, the Department of Microbiology has experienced annual growth in excess of 6 % per year in the overall number of tests undertaken and this level of increase is expected but not guaranteed to continue.

Precise information on deadline(s) for lodging appeals: The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will incorporate a standstill period at the point information on the award of the contract is communicated to tenderers. That notification will provide full information on the award decision. The standstill period, which will be for a minimum of 10 calendar days, provides time for unsuccessful tenderers to challenge the award decision before the contract is entered into.
