Open thread | Wet Christmas: have you been affected by the floods?

Was your festive season a sodden nightmare; or do you fear being affected in the future? Tell us how to stop floods

It’s difficult to believe that Britain started 2012 in one of its worst ever droughts. Since the spring it’s seemed that wet weather and flooding have been an almost daily story, affecting every part of the country. Spring saw the wettest April, May and June ever recorded, July bringing a final end to the hosepipe bans.

We’ve seen dramatic and unprecedented flooding across the UK including in Yorkshire, the south west, the Midlands; and today there are further flooding fears for Scotland, Kent, Cornwall and Wales.

Have you been affected by the floods? If so, how did you cope, and how much disruption did you suffer? Are you now able to start rebuilding your life? Or if you’ve been lucky and missed direct flooding so far, do you fear that your home may be affected in the future?

Please tell us your own experiences, and how you think we should start to protect ourselves against the floods, which seem certain to continue well into 2013. © 2012 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
