Parapet Improvement Works 2014 – Wakefield Council
It is Wakefield Councils intention to carry out a parapet improvement scheme to Westgate Beck walls between No. 2 Alverthorpe road and Maudline bridge on Westgate in Wakefield.

Westgate beck walls comprise of 4No. stonework parapets located directly adjacent to Alverthorpe and Westgate Becks. The walls vary in length as follows:
Section 1.0 – 36.6m in length.
Section 2.0 – 56.0m in length.
Section 3.0. – 115.6m in length.
Section 4.0 – 127.4m in in length.
It is Wakefield Councils intention to carry out a parapet improvement scheme to Westgate Beck walls between No. 2 Alverthorpe road and Maudline bridge on Westgate in Wakefield. The existing parapets do not comply with current standards (Minimum 1.0m height). The scheme has been produced to install a pedestrian guardrail on top of the existing wall to provide the additional height required and achieve the minimum 1.0m height. The railings to be installed are similar in design and colour to those already in place at the Westgate flood relief culvert adjacent to this scheme and will ensure that they are in keeping with local infrastructure.
The works comprise of the following:-
a) Traffic Management.
b) Site Clearance.
c) Diamond coring works.
d) Supply and installation of pedestrian guardrail including protection of steelwork against corrosion. The pedestrian guardrails shall be galvanised and painted in accordance with Appendix 19/1. Protective system to be Type IV in accordance with Series 1900 of the specification for highway works, a powder coating finish isnot permitted.
e) Masonry repairs and repointing works including allowances made for any existing coping stones unsuitable for coring.
