The Council has always had a commitment, within its Local Transport Strategy, to pursue means of encouraging cars to be used more efficiently, through measures such as parking management, management of the road network and promotion of car sharing. The Car Club in Edinburgh is the second biggest in the UK and currently has 5 203 members, a fleet of 151 vehicles, ranging from vans to electric vehicles, and operates from over 200 parking places in 104 locations provided for exclusive use by the Council.
