Virgin Trains are installing an on-board server platform across the Virgin Trains fleet that will enable a number of digital interactions, to engage customers and significantly enhance the customer experience — to provide a best in the market solution. Over the next 6 months the server will be fitted across Virgin’s 76 trains and the project will go live in March 2016.
Virgin Trains are looking to work with content owners, supplier/s, or a content aggregtor to provide a range of best in the market, current and engaging content cached onto the server and streamed free-to-passenger’s devices over a local on-board Wi-Fi network.
Content must be of a high perceived value across television, film, digital press, gaming and RSS feeds. AV content must be across a broad range of genres, play lengths (short, medium and long). Content must appeal to a broad demographic and reflects the different customer segments who travel on the Virgin Trains West Coast; ranging from frequent, infrequent, leisure and business customers. Customers will be free to access through an entertainment app with an integrated DRM library across various personal smartphone, tablet and desktop devices. The content would be regularly updated in cycles (to be decided by the content provider/aggregator).
The content would serve 76 trains running on the West Coast Main Line. There are 56 Class 390 Pendolinos and 20 Class 221 Super Voyagers. A future phase of project would include the provision of Pay-Per-View content to our customers. Virgin Trains reserves the right to enter into one or more contracts with suitably qualified service providers to provide any combination of the services required.
