As part of the Authority’s commitment to improving the emotional health and wellbeing of Children and Young People we are currently delivering a pilot programme aimed at children and young people aged 10-14. This programme is funded by the Big Lottery as part of the HeadStart initiative and is currently working with 13 schools (3 secondary and 10 primaries) in Hull. The HeadStart pilot aims to test and learn various interventions at a universal, targeted and targeted plus level. This new service will deliver one project of the HeadStart models.
HeadStart Hull aims to improve emotional health and build resilience in children and young people aged 10-14 to give them the skills and support needed to cope with life challenges and difficult circumstances in their lives. In doing so it will reduce the need for specialist interventions and will support young people experiencing low level mental health problems before they become a serious issue.
The project is expected to work with a minimum of 125 families of children aged 10-14 across the 6 schools, for a minimum of 8-10 sessions per family, over the length of the contract. The project will provide psychological practitioner who will work with the young people, parents and school staff (and other services if appropriate) to provide advice and interventions which provide a “team around the family” approach to improving emotional health and wellbeing and increasing resilience for the young people involved.
The contract will run from 15 June 2015 to 31 July 2016. No contract extensions will be granted to this contract.
The total value of contract will not exceed £45,000 over the life of the contract.
The Aim of the service is:
To provide psychological input and interventions to respond promptly to identified need, and improve the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 10-14 identified by the HeadStart schools.
