There is a small internal PR function at Aston University, which is successful at dealing with the regional media and incoming national media queries. We do not however have the resources to be able to develop meaningful relationships with national media. We wish to continue to collaborate with an external specialist agency to ensure Aston is well represented through national and international channels.
In the last four years we have had great success in lifting the profile of Aston, both for specific research projects and for individual academics. We have also been able to talk about our commitment to widening participation, which is second to none, our placement year, languages for all, popularity with applicants and success in league tables.
The scope there for going forward is to secure the services of a PR agency/consultancy to develop the profile of Aston University, Aston University academic staff, and Aston University students in the national media including but not limited to print, radio, broadcast TV and digital, within the UK market. It also includes 2-3 days of media training for Aston academics per year to ensure Aston continues to develop its next ‘media stars’. This tender excludes International coverage except where this naturally occurs and detailed crisis management response. It also excludes PR funded projects which have their own promotional/marketing/PR budget allocated (where appropriate) and the Aston University Engineering Academy.
