The Council is seeking a provider for the complete ‘beginning to end’, countywide administration and payment of the Nottinghamshire Local Welfare Assistance Scheme that supports those local people of Nottinghamshire (excluding the Nottingham city area) most in need in times of financial difficulty. As part of the Government plans for welfare reform, Community Care Grants and Crisis Loans that are currently delivered by the Department of Work and Pensions will be abolished and a new discretionary local service will be provided by Local Authorities.
The purpose of the service is to help local people in financial crisis out of immediate hardship and to offer them support to maintain their financial independence in the longer term. The service will be responsible for making welfare awards based on agreed criteria around need and within a defined financial envelope.
