Balance, the North East Alcohol Office Balance was launched in February 2009 to establish the region as a world leader in helping people develop a mature and sensible relationship with alcohol. The aim of the office is to deliver a region-wide comprehensive and co-ordinated evidence-based alcohol programme. It acts as a strategic leader on alcohol issues and engages in high profile media and political advocacy designed to encourage sensible drinking and reduce the direct and indirect harm caused by alcohol. Balance North East Alcohol Office are looking for a provider to support them in the research of alcohol consumption in the North East. The primary aim of this fifth wave research project is to provide a continued measure of progress against the office’s key performance indicators, whilst also exploring wider attitudes, consumption patterns and public opinion towards alcohol across the North East. Although the performance indicators will remain the same, Balance and its key stakeholders will work alongside the successful agency to agree the remainder of the survey content and the office would welcome innovative insights and suggestions around subject matter. As with the Public Perceptions Survey, the findings will need to be representative of the North East population as a whole, ideally with the potential to disaggregate the research to a local level. The research should be representative of the North East population as a whole and ideally include responses from residents in each of the 12 local authorities within the region (Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland, South Tyneside, County Durham, Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland). The response to the invitation to tender should indicate how you would guarantee engaging and generating responses from all socio-economic groups and geographies across the region. We are looking for an agency to work in partnership with Balance to agree an appropriate set of survey questions. The agency will also need to outline a clear research methodology and proposals for fieldwork and information-gathering activity.
