One of the FCO’s top priorities is to assist British people living, travelling and working around the world when they are most in need and respond rapidly to all overseas crises, leading cross-government action. Crisis Management Department (CMD) is the lead department in the FCO during a crisis overseas and ensures the FCO responds effectively.
A key component of the FCO crisis response is the Rapid deployment team (RDT), a network of trained staff, who stand ready to deploy to the location of a crisis at short notice to augment the overseas response. RDT will work alongside staff from the UK mission in the country affected and are a short-term resource available to supplement Post resources. They report to the Head of mission.
