The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises in Great Britain. In order to practise in Great Britain, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians must be registered with us. Currently there are approximately 48 000 registered pharmacists, 21 000 pharmacy technicians and 14 000 pharmacy premises.
The GPhC is seeking a supplier to deliver a revised, clinically focused national assessment which forms a core part of the initial education and training requirements for pharmacists.
The Registration Assessment (RA) must be passed to register as a pharmacist. It has a very high profile in the profession, among candidates and in the pharmaceutical press, and must be delivered to the highest standard in all respects.
The GPhC is looking to secure services from a contractor with significant experience of running national assessments to a very high standard. The initial contract will be for a four year period.
The services will include:
1.printing question and answer papers;
2.collecting payment for sittings (and returning a proportion of fees to the GPhC);
3.operating a helpline for candidates;
4.running venues on the day of an assessment;
5.storing question and answer papers and supplying them on request when necessary;
6.providing the GPhC with initial examination results and analytical reports;
7.attending specified meetings of the Board of Assessors and providing advice to the Board on candidate and question performance;
8.providing the GPhC with definitive examination results.
