Sefton Council is seeking an experienced and qualified paper conservator to work with us on our project, Rediscovering Our Collections.  The project has been funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund and is about rediscovering what is in our prints and drawings collections in order to establish what we can do with them to increase access and engagement and open up fundraising opportunities.  It is vital for us to understand, use and work with these collections that have been underused and neglected for many years.

Our prints and drawings collections have received little care and, unusually, most of the works on paper are still framed, many of them in their original frames and mounts from the early 20th century onwards.  We require a full conservation survey of around 5000 works by a paper conservator working with curatorial staff to determine conservation needs, preventative and remedial, as well as the heritage value of the collections.  The result of this full survey will be the identification of conservation priorities and the remedial conservation of identified works.
