SE is seeking a contractor to deliver a mentoring service to support businesses defined as ‘growth opportunities‘ and those businesses who are directly relationship managed by SE.
SE aims to develop capability and ambition in business leaders/senior management teams of growing businesses and social enterprises. Business mentoring is recognised as an effective way to nurture leadership, encourage ambition and accelerate business growth.
Business mentoring is a professional relationship (in this case developed outside of the business) in which an experienced person assists another person/others to develop skills and knowledge that can enhance their professional and personal growth.
The role of a business mentor is to assist a business owner to raise their business ambitions, develop greater self-awareness, and unlock barriers to growth. Mentors can bring real life experience and are a valuable source of expertise and experience that resonates with other business people helping individuals avoid potential pitfalls in business and acting as a sounding board for those problems and confidential issues that sometimes cannot be discussed with colleagues. They can also offer technical knowledge, insights, guidance and encouragement.
Mentoring for business will build upon the work done over recent years by Scottish Chamber of Commerce in their delivery of Business Mentoring Scotland and will support a high volume of business leaders and their senior management teams, being available to companies in one to one and one to many formats. It will be provided as a complementary service to businesses who are directly relationship managed by SE as well as to businesses who meet a definition of growth opportunity.
Key objectives of this service are to:-
Enable business owners and senior decision makers to develop their knowledge, leadership skills, competence and confidence to grow successful businesses and organisations.
Create high value and deeper interventions to businesses by accessing the expertise, knowledge and networks of experienced business mentors.
By providing mentoring in a number of formats, including one-to-one and group mentoring formats, the service provides greater flexibility to suit business needs and preferences and also allows business people to learn from each other and their mentor.
The service can help to address SE’s key business growth objectives including:-
Leadership and management development;
Product and market development;
Innovation and the creation of new products and services;
Improve management and organisational development practices including business succession, workplace innovation and employee engagement;
Improve business focus and strategy;
Please see attached brief for further details.
