Background Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) to lead Grow Wild; a dynamic programme to inspire people, especially young people, to do something positive where they live by sowing UK native wild flowers and transforming spaces. Over its lifetime (2013-2017), Grow Wild has committed to funding four flagship sites – one each in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, which will receive up to £120,000 to create an inspiring site that leaves a lasting footprint of the programme. In 2013 we launched flagship site voting in Scotland with three shortlisted projects over a three-week campaign. Working with local media and using targeted marketing material, we invited the general public to vote online for their favourite site and the winning project was The Waterworks in Barrhead.
