South Ham’s District Council currently collects approximately 9 600 tonnes per annum of Mixed Food/Garden and Cardboard Waste.
The Authority’s current arrangement for the disposal of the above waste expires on 31.3.2017. This tendering exercise intends to secure the successor service provision, for the composting of South Hams’ Mixed Food/Garden and Cardboard Waste to PAS 100 standards or equivalent from April 2017.

The Contract for the composting of South Hams Mixed Food/Garden and Cardboard Waste is for an initial period of 12 months only. Following the expiry of the 1st 12 months of the Contract, should South Hams District Council require further time to prepare for the switching of their collections from mixed organic waste to separately collected Food Waste and Garden Waste, then the Contract may be extended by mutual agreement for a further period of 12 months.

Once South Hams District Council has switched to the separate collection of Food and Garden Waste on the expiry of the Contract in 2018, then the processing of the District Council’s separately collected Food Waste and Garden Waste is intended to be absorbed by the prevailing contracts (including any employees who may be eligible for transfer), that the Authority will have in place with others for the separate processing of Food or Garden Waste originating from the west of Devon.
