Description

Leicester Guildhall Re-display:

As part of a section of the medieval Guildhall in Leicester having new exhibition / displays being installed LCC are looking for a company to work with us to build bespoke exhibition display stands / units / cases for three rooms within the building.

The building is medieval and we wish for the tendering company to provide a framework on which to display graphics and which will incorporate glazed display cases to an agreed standard (see attached). The framework will be made primarily out of wood and have a feel of medieval construction (with no ‘modern’ materials such as screw heads / brackets showing) but without the end result blending in too much with the surroundings.

VERY IMPORTANT: The Guildhall is listed and none of the structure can attach to the building itself so must be free-standing whilst being completely secure with absolutely no risk to the public, the building or the collections that will be housed in the cases within the display area.
Because of the sensitive nature of the building we need a company with a proven track record of working in listed buildings (examples to be given in the tender document) and an understanding of the way any construction can be made to fit into the style of the building without trying to look like fake medieval. Also, due to the incorporation of display cases within the structure the company must also be able to prove that they have worked with museums before in supplying glazed display cases capable of displaying objects securely to given standard.

The company must be able to follow the attached design drawings and design specifications and be able to liaise closely with our design staff to ensure that the work is built to the highest standards: these galleries are expected to provide an important focal point for the Guildhall and must therefore be of the best possible quality.

The dates are critical and if any company feels they cannot achieve them then they must not tender.

Any questions regarding the tenders and if any companies need to visit the site / talk to staff before committing to tender are to contact Heather Southorn direct on 0116 225 4975 or heather.southorn@leicester.gov.uk
