The University wishes to appoint a contractor or contractors to supply an X-ray tomography scanner system which is intended to complement a scanner with a sub-micron spatial resolution capability based within the Henry Moseley X-Ray imaging facility (HMXIF).
This current requirement includes as a minimum, an enhanced specification instrument with the specific targets of faster acquisition times, matched or improved spatial resolution/voxel size and larger sample manipulator capacity.
In particular, in addition to a generalised capability we wish to enhance the HMXIF capabilities in the scientific areas.
Self-repairing ceramics and polymer composites.
Crack growth in tough hierarchical biomaterials and bio-inspired structures.
Coating evolution and sub-surface failure.
Charging and discharging effects of batteries and fuel cells.
For all of these studies the ability to achieve time-resolution in controlled dynamic experiments will be critical. This requires the ability to accommodate in-situ rigs (for applying temperature, tension/compression/bending forces,
