There is a requirement for provision of a storage area network for out Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
We run two completely independent VMware Horizon View 5.1 implementations (which will likely be version View 6.1 by the time the new storage solution is procured). Our existing flash storage arrays have been critical to the success of our environment with each delivering over 200 000 IOPS and a disk latency that has not exceeded 282 microseconds. Performance is obviously key as is reliability — our VDI environment is used 24 x 7 to provide our services.
The first VMware Horizon View implementation is physically provided from our Cambridge campus primary datacentre and supports Cambridge campus users as well as remote and other users. The Cambridge array must be able to support up to 1 400 concurrent desktops. We anticipate that the single Cambridge array must provide at least 14TB, delivering at least 150 000 IOPS within a disk latency of under 1 millisecond. Our Cambridge array must support at least 20 hosts operating concurrently at the performance levels above.
The second VMware Horizon View implementation is physically provided from our Chelmsford campus datacentre for, predominantly, Chelmsford campus based users. The Chelmsford array must be able to support up to 1 000 concurrent desktops. We anticipate that the single Chelmsford array must provide at least 10TB, delivering at least 150 000 IOPS within a disk latency of under 1 millisecond. Our Chelmsford array must support at least 20 hosts operating concurrently at the performance levels above.
