Members receive a smartcard containing credit that can be put towards taxi fares with approved taxi operators. Members of the scheme would be entitled to subsidised travel upon production of a valid membership card.

Nexus currently operates a TaxiCard scheme transport service for customers who have difficultly travelling on normal public transport. The system consists of a transport service for customers with difficultly accessing normal public transport. Members receive a smartcard containing credit that can be put towards taxi fares with approved taxi operators. Members of the scheme would be entitled to subsidised travel upon production of a valid membership card.
As part of a business process review Nexus wish to continue the option of providing all of this service using taxis as the demand responsive vehicle. In essence, the service would require software booking service and this would be operated by various taxi operators. Members of the scheme would be entitled to reduced travel upon production of a valid membership card. This card will also store travel rights allowing the customer to reduced travel according to the schemes pre-defined rules.
The successful operator will be required to offer an administration and data collection to be sent to Nexus in a set format to be agreed.
The new contract is expected to commence early October 2013 with the requirement for a varied range of vehicles from salon type vehicles to accessible Taxis with the capability to transport Electric Scooters as well as some of the larger Wheel Chairs operated currently.
