Description

Following the recent discovery of human remains (potentially of King Richard III) during an excavation at Grey Friars in September 2012, the Council is seeking to develop a King Richard III Visitor Centre at the former site of the Alderman Newton Grammar School. The Centre is to be opened by 1st August mid July 2013.
The Richard III Visitor Centre will enable local, regional, national, and international visitors to find out more about the excavation’s discoveries and the associated story.

It is envisaged that the Visitor Centre will be a tourist attraction which will complement existing heritage provision, draw visitors into Leicester and the Old Town area, and encourage them to further explore the city and its museums, heritage sites, retail and cultural offer. This Visitor Centre could be a real catalyst to city centre development, enabling the Council to promote awareness of Leicester’s heritage.
