Who can fix my back, and at what cost?

There are a wide range of professional treatments offered for back problems, and prices – and it is not easy to tell which one is the best

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it’s up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday’s paper.

This week’s question

For the first time, I’m having terrible lower-back problems and need to see someone. Locally we have physios, osteopaths, chiropractors … all charging different rates from £40 up to £80 an hour. What’s the difference, and who’ll be best? Any tips for a back-problem novice?
