II.1.5)Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

Middlesex is a modern University that is proud of our progress made since 2000 on campus consolidation works in London, on our campus in Hendon. We have invested over 200 000 000 GBP in our Hendon estate and continue to invest in our London campus consolidation programme. Focussing investment on a consolidated campus has resulted in vastly improved facilities which have enhanced our position in the ever increasingly competitive Higher Education market.
The Hendon campus has been a fully functional campus throughout the time of our consolidation work and the projects have been delivered as a mixed package of major infrastructure projects as well as smaller packages of capital works.
This four year framework is aimed at assisting Middlesex in achieving its consolidation process and we expect the first group of projects under this framework to happen between April and September 2012 so that ongoing staff and student moves can take place in time for the start of term in October 2012.
These projects are all expected to be done during normal hours within tight timeframes in mainly occupied buildings. The buildings are located on our London campuses, predominantly Hendon, which will continue to operate during the course of all works and therefore there will be staff and large numbers of students around at most times.
Works packages under this framework range from rather basic construction activity to the conversion and/or development of highly specialist facilities. All projects require the ability to manage the works in an environment of specialist and hence bespoke activity as well as managing the baseline constraints such as access, parking, waste management and the like. Successful contractors will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively with University and/or similar clients and also a wide range of professional consultants.
All contractors engaged by the University are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the overall purpose of providing an ever improving and sustainable working and learning environment with value for money being delivered at all levels.
