Description of the contract

The Science Museum develops and delivers galleries, exhibitions and wide cultural and learning offer for visitors to experience in person and online. We aim to make our offer inclusively accessible and work to actively remove the physical, sensory and intellectual barriers our spaces and content present.

To assist in the delivery of this high level strategic aim, the museum wishes to create a framework of Access Experts will work with the Head of Audience Research and Advocacy & staff across the museum on specific projects and developments. Broadly, the aim of this work will be to provide expert services to ensure that not only do we meet legal duties and regulations but we set new standards for our peers in the UK and beyond.

These expert roles will comprise both inclusion policy, innovation and programme development and a technical standards remit; individuals or organisations offering one, several or all of these areas of expertise are encouraged to submit tender responses.

The Access Experts may provide

– Research, expert services and creative support to ensure that 2D design leads best practice

– Research, expert technical services and creative support to ensure that 3D design leads best practice

– Research and expert services to support a variety of teams to meet the needs of visitors who are D/deaf or are disabled, such as in the development of new learning programmes which may take place in the museum, in outreach settings or be part of a web-based offer.

– Support to ensure the Museum has the right policy structure in place to enable us to meet the needs of all our visitors

– Advocacy for the engagement of visitors with a wide range of access needs into our development process, including participation projects to develop the cultural offer

-User experience testing for a range of web and multi-media products
