A hall of residence comprising approximately 140 to 170 fully accessible bedrooms each approximately 20 or 22m2, arranged on 5 or 6 floors above ground level each room with an en-suite providing toilet, basin and shower. The ground or the top floor (depending on development of the brief over the next 2 months) will accommodate a dining cafeteria, associated kitchen and possibly a convenience retail store.
In addition to the bedrooms, on each of the accommodation floors, at least 3 self-catering communal kitchens are required, one for every 8 bedrooms. Lifts and staircases are to be included as necessary to meet statutory requirements and the enhanced accessibility aspirations of the User brief.
Dependant on the level of funding that becomes available the project may be expanded to include a second hall of residence comprising approximately 100 standard bedrooms (i.e. with no accessibility requirement) accommodated on 5 floors above ground level. The ground floor of this building will be designed to provide staff offices.

Objective criteria for choosing the limited number of candidates: The final suppliers chosen to go forward will be given the opportunity to develop the design in detail. The University is offering between GBP 3 and 5k per supplier therefore we want to encourage suppliers to fully understand and develop our requirements.
