Advocacy for Children and Young People involved in Child Protection Processes

Children and young people should be able to raise issues or have their say about the decisions made about their lives and the care they received.  The support of the advocate will help them to achieve this and represent the young person’s wishes and feelings at meetings if the child is unable to attend.

This service is to provide advocacy to children and young people involved in child protection processes in Rotherham. Advocacy will be provided to the child or young person who are subject to child protection processes or are a child in need.  This advocacy will be issue specific and time limited and advocates will help the individual child or young person to make a decision or resolve an issue and then withdraw.  The priority will be to provide advocacy pre-conference, during the meeting and support post conference and up to the next core group meeting.  Children and young people should be able to raise issues or have their say about the decisions made about their lives and the care they received.  The support of the advocate will help them to achieve this and represent the young person’s wishes and feelings at meetings if the child is unable to attend.
