Description of the contract
Audley End House will undergo a large building maintenance project over autumn and winter 2013-2014. As a consequence of these works it will be necessary to move parts of the collection to temporary storage and provide protection from dust for those remaining in situ. The historic collection at Audley End includes paintings, furniture, natural history, ceramics and books. . Some objects will be left in situ and will need protecting from dust; In addition certain objects will be left in situ and will be protected by the building works contractor; provision for these is not included in the tender. The tenderer will be responsible for the movement of all objects to the temporary storage areas. As objects will only be moved within the building they will not need to be packaged for transport. It may be easier and safer pack some smaller objects in crates before movement. It may be necessary to put protection on parts of the routes used and before access equipment is set up. Any materials and equipment, including access equipment, which are required must be provided by the tenderer. The movement of the objects will be supervised by members of English Heritage’s Curatorial Department. All documentation will be completed by English Heritage. All displaced collections will be stored within Audley End House. The tenderer is required to set up temporary storage areas for the collection. This will include the protection of floors; fabrication and installation of storage furniture where necessary. Where rooms already contain some historic objects the tenderer may need to rearrange these to allow for extra items to be stored. Please note that there are weight limits for floor loading in some of these rooms. The tenderer must work with English Heritage representatives to ensure that these floor loading limits are not exceeded.
